Senate Committee on Indian Affairs set for first field oversight hearing

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs is in North Dakota this week for its first field hearing of the 115th Congress.

Sen. John Hoeven (R-North Dakota), the chairman of the committee, will lead the proceeding on Friday. It takes place at the Cankdeska Cikana Community College on the Spirit Lake Nation.

The subject of the hearing is the implementation of the Native American Children's Safety Act. The new law, which was introduced by Hoeven as S.184 during the last session of Congress, requires t background checks on all adults living in homes where Native children are placed in foster care.

The hearing begins at 1pm Central time. The witness list follows:
