The Meskwaki Tribe continues efforts to diversify its economy in Iowa.

Over the years, the tribe has expanded into real estate, information technology, tobacco, coffee, construction and even distributes its own line of Meskwaki Warrior barbecue sauces. A new warehouse that will serve as a manufacturing and shipping hub is due to open this year.

"It's good not just for the tribe, but surrounding communities," Mark Hubble, the chief executive officer of Meskwaki Inc., told The Toledo Chronicle.

Most of the Meskwaki Inc's employees are tribal citizens but Hubble expects more non-Indians to be hired as the enterprise grows.
