The Chickasaw Rancher tells the story of Montford Johnson, who grew up an orphan in Indian Territory in the 1800s. Despite his hardships, he established a large ranching empire and used his wealth to help Indian people in need.

Principal photography on the film began this week, The Oklahoman reported. Shooting will take place at the Chickasaw Ranch and in locations around the state, according to arts writer Brandy McDonnell.
