Oglala Sioux Tribe might enter extradition pact in South Dakota

The Oglala Sioux Tribe might enter into an extradition agreement with law enforcement in South Dakota.

The tribe considered a compact more than a decade ago but one was never reached. With tribal police dealing with high rates of crime -- including drug trafficking -- an agreement is back on the table, The Rapid City Journal reported.

The agreement could allow outside agencies to arrest suspects on the Pine Ridge Reservation. And it could help tribal police do the same away from the reservation.

The tribe has been talking with the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office and Rapid City Police Department, the Journal reported.
