LAME DEER, Mont. - Having just went to the election polls to seek five new Tribal Council members who were officially seated on November 19, Northern Cheyenne voters will once again participate in a primary on December 11 and a general election to fill the vacant positions of both Tribal President and Vice-President.

As reported earlier, Tribal President Jace Killsback recently resigned and Vice-President Conrad Fisher has announced his impending resignation. This leaves a two-year term for the two top elected officials on the reservation.

The candidates for Tribal President include: Allen Fisher, former tribal council member from Ashland, area rancher and well known rodeo competitor in the region; Rudolph King, Jr. Busby; Sheldon King, former tribal council member, Busby; Rilla Kingfisher, former tribal employee and student at CDKC; Kenneth Medicine Bull, Birney; Rynalea Whiteman Pena, veteran Headstart employee; Geri Small, Director of Northern Cheyenne Boy's and Girl's Club and former Tribal President, Lame Deer; and William Walksalong, tribal Chief Executive Officer and former Tribal President, Lame Deer.

Candidates for Vice-President include: Robert D. Bailey, media person for the Tribal Council and former council member, Busby; Terry Beartusk, former Director of the Tribal Sanitation Department and several other tribal positions, Lame Deer; Joe Fox, Jr. former tribal council member and Vice-President, Ashland; Diana Freeman McLean, former tribal Human Resources Director, Lame Deer; Winfield Russell, retired BIA law enforcement and former Vice-President, Busby; Max Small, rancher and former tribal council member, Busby and Vernon Small, rancher and former tribal council member, Lame Deer.

The primary election will reduce the field to two candidates for each office through a reservation-vote. The top vote-getter in the January 2019 general election will take office soon after that.
