Snow snakes and other traditional winter games
It’s the time of year when snow snakes are racing across the frozen open spaces in the Upper Midwest, Northeast and wherever else there is adequate snow cover.
They are not actual snakes, but a game to see who can throw carved and decorated wooden sticks the farthest.
Snow snakes are one of the traditional Native winter games seeing a surge in popularity thanks to culture and language revitalization efforts.
