A conversation with Cynthia Chavez Lamar
When Cynthia Chavez Lamar (San Felipe Pueblo) took the helm of the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., she became the first Native woman to serve as a Smithsonian museum director.
Chavez Lamar has a long history of museum administration, which includes directing the Indian Arts Research Center at the School for Advanced Research in Santa Fe and the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque. It's the first day on the job for Cynthia Chavez Lamar, the new director of the National Museum of the American Indian!
