Letters from Clara
Crow Chairwoman Clara Nomee had a series of legal and political battles this week. You might recall that her conviction of stealing from the Crow Tribe was largely upheld two weeks ago. This past week, she filed for re-election to the tribe's highest office, only to have a judge oust her from her position, prohibiting her from doing business for the tribe and from running for re-election in May. This past weekend, she gave no indication she would follow the court order. The upcoming weeks will certainly be interesting for the tribe...

Protests in Peru
Peru became the center of worldwide (and Indianz.Com) attention over their highly contested Presidential elections. Held on Sunday, early reports predicted a run-off. But as the votes kept coming in, incumbent Alberto Fujimori began to slowly creep towards the 50%+ mark over rival Alejandro Toledo, hoping to be the nation's first Indian president. Suspecting ballot fraud, Toledo and thousands of Peruvians took to the streets to protest the Fujimori administration. As the week went on, international pressure, including US, seemed to have an effect, as election officials announced a run-off on Thursday. The battle continues...

Clinton in the Divide

Last year, he visited Pine Ridge, this year, he's traveling to the Navajo Nation to speak about the technological gap between the rich and the poor. Later in the week, he told Indian supporters of the Democratic party that he would spend the rest of his term and the rest of his life helping to make life better in Indian Country. As the week progresses, we'll keep you updated on all of his latest announcements...
