Navajo fire out of control

FRIDAY, MAY 10, 2002

Fire crews on Thursday continued to battle a 750-acre blaze in the Chuska Mountains of New Mexico.

Firefighters have been battling the fire, which was upgraded to a more serious Type 1 classification. Believed to be man-made, the blaze has been difficult to reach.

Because of the upgrade, some BIA, Hopi and Navajo crews were relieved by Hot Shot crews.

The Tohaali Community School has been closed. A Navajo fishery could be affected.
