Tribal shellfish agreement set

Disputes over the gathering of shellfish by 15 tribes will be handled by one federal magistrate.

U.S. District Judge Edward Rafeedie approved a settlement affecting the tribes and land owners in Puget Sound. In 1994, he ruled the tribes were entitled to half the catch under their treaties.

Land owners can object to tribal harvesting plans before the magistrate.
