Colo. tribe helps fire evacuees

FRIDAY, JUNE 21, 2002

The Southern Ute Tribe of Colorado has extended a warm hand to residents forced to leave their homes due to a 53,000-acre fire.

The tribe has donated $5,000 to the Red Cross for fire victims. Its casino and hotel are serving as a home away from home for evacuees.

"Don't ever let anyone tell you something bad about a Ute," en elderly woman told The Denver Post. "You couldn't ask for more; these people have gone all out for us."
