Supreme Court denies challenge to tribe

MONDAY, JUNE 24, 2002

The Supreme Court today refused to allow an Arizona tribe to be sued by a non-Indian couple.

Without comment, the Justices rejected a petition for review filed by Ross and Kim Linneen. The couple wanted to sue the Gila River Tribe for alleged infractions of their civil rights.

The action today lets stand an appeals court ruling which found the tribe enjoyed sovereign immunity from lawsuit.
