Navajo youth meeting held in N.M.

MONDAY, JULY 15, 2002

The first Shiprock Youth Conference was held on the Navajo Nation in New Mexico last week.

Elarina Nakai organized the conference, titled "Validating Shi Yazhi, Shi Awee." The name recognizes the feelings of children.

Issues discussed included cultural traditions, the legal system, domestic violence, substance abuse and life skills.
