Bush withholds $34M from UN program

TUESDAY, JULY 23, 2002

The Bush administration is withholding $34 million in funds from a United Nations family planning program over the objections of a White House advisory panel.

The panel said the U.N. Population Fund did not promote abortions or forced sterilization in China. The Department of State is blocking the funds anyway because it said the program violates U.S. law.
