Company develops Native American doll

MONDAY, AUGUST 12, 2002

It took months of convincing, but the Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho agreed to lend its name and culture for a new doll.

The tribe worked with the Pleasant Company to develop Kaya. Kaya will be officially unveiled at a ceremony on the Nez Perce Reservation on Thursday.

Kaya is part of the "Meet Kaya" series, which include Hispanic, African-American and other dolls.
