Crow girls score with science project

A science project by four teenage girls has drawn national attention to the Crow Tribe of Montana.

The middle school students won a prestigious $25,000 Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation grant to construct a straw-bale building. Oprah Winfrey gave them an additional $25,000 plus $20,000 in tools.

Using the money, they turned their project into reality. With the help of Red Feather Development Group, a non-profit that builds homes on reservations, the girls built a 900-square-foot study hall for the tribe.

The "Rez Protectors" are: Lucretia Bird in Ground, Kimberly Deputee, Omney Sees The Ground, and Brenett Stewart.
