N.M. ruling affects uranium cleanup

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2002

A unanimous New Mexico court ruling requires cleanup of uranium mines located near tribal land.

The United Nuclear Corporation tried to claim exemption from a state law. The company closed uranium mines near the Navajo Reservation and Laguna Pueblo. A third is also affected by the ruling.
