Gay Navajo 'assured' of win for office

MONDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2002

Jack Jackson Jr., a Democrat running for the Arizona State Legislature, is expected to win his race, the Associated Press reports.

Jackson is a member of the Navajo Nation and will be the first openly gay Native American to hold state office, according to a political group. He is a former National Congress of American Indians staff member.

Jackson's father is Jack Jackson Sr., a state legislator.
