Idaho tribe reclaiming police powers

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2002

The Shoshone-Bannock Nation of Idaho is renewing an effort to repeal state criminal and civil jurisdiction on tribal land.

The state assumed jurisdiction under Public Law 280, a federal termination-era law. The tribe is pushing a bill to reclaim sole authority on the reservation.
