S.D. court affirms child welfare act

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2002

The South Dakota Supreme Court has affirmed the Indian Child Welfare Act in a case affecting a Standing Rock Sioux custody dispute.

The court upheld a ruling that transfers the case to the tribal court. The mother of a 3-year-old boy is trying to regain custody after he was placed with a non-Indian foster family.
