Tradition conflicts with hunting ban

MONDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2002

Alaska wildlife officials are considering a ban on hunting moose on the lower Kuskokwim River but a decision is being delayed to consider the impact on Yup'ik subsistence rights.

Native hunters could resist the ban. But a Yup'ik leader said they will understand the need to restore a dwindling moose population.
