Editorial: No to off-reservation casino
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2002 The Spokesman Review in an editorial today opposes a proposal for an off-reservation casino in Idaho. A business owner near Priest Lake has approached the Kalispel Tribe in nearby Washington. The tribe has not made any moves on the proposal but the paper says the idea is a bad one. "An off-reservation casino would open Idaho for gaming expansion, would destroy the lake's idyllic environment and would invite a backlash. Residents and state officials should resist this scheme," the paper writes. The Kalispel Tribe is one of the few in the nation to have land placed into trust off-reservation for a casino post 1988. Washington Gov. Gary Locke had to approve the two-part determination. Get the Story:
