Tribes dispute gaming study results

THURSDAY, JUNE 27, 2002

The Colorado River Indian Tribes of Arizona dispute the results of a gaming study that concludes the state will receive less money than anticipated.

The study was commissioned by the Arizona Department of Gaming. A private consulting group said the tribes' ballot initiative would contribute $26 million a year to the state whereas a racetrack proposal would generate $294 million a year.

The tribes say their proposal would generate $50 million for the state.
