Sacred spring dries up but who cares
THURSDAY, JULY 18, 2002 An historic spring once used by tribes in the Southwest dried up in 1999 but visitors to the Pipe Spring National Monument won't necessarily know. The New York Times reports that the National Park Service keeps Pipe Spring alive by pumping in water from another source. The $284,000 taps the Tunnel Spring to restore the once-ancient flows.
