Ore. men apologize for targeting tribes

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2002

Three Oregon men apologized on Tuesday to the Klamath Tribes for a racially-motivated shooting that occurred at the height of Indian and non-Indian tensions over scarce water resources.

George Curry, Richard Sharp and Adam Lee had driven through a town where tribal offices are located, carrying signs and shouting racial remarks. The incident took place December 1, 2001.

The men pleaded guilty to several felonies and misdemeanors. In addition to the apology, they must perform community service, undergo alcohol evaluations, pay fines and restitution and enter cultural sensitivity training.
