Gangs infiltrate Minn. reservations

Reservations in Minnesota have become a hotbed for gang activity, according to tribal, state and federal officials.

Boasting names like the Native Mob, the all-girl Original Tract Girls and Red Nation Clique, the gangs are blamed for a rise in crime, drug activity and murders. Officials focus on three Ojibwe reservations in particular: Leech Lake, Red Lake and White Earth.

According to federal statistics, twenty-three percent of the cases that the FBI prosecutes in Minnesota occur at Red Lake Reservation. There has been a rash of crimes and five homicides in recent months.

The Department of Justice has awarded $320,000 for anti-gang programs on the reservations.
