N.M. Pueblos inaugurate new leaders

MONDAY, JANUARY 6, 2003

New leaders of several Pueblo tribes in New Mexico are being officially sworn in today.

In 11 Pueblos, the leaders are chosen by traditional elders. The terms usually last one year.

In seven other Pueblos, leaders are elected by the tribal members. At Taos Pueblo, leaders are chosen by the tribal council.
