Library seeks to preserve Alaska Native recordings

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2003

The Noel Wien Public Library in Fairbanks has embarked on a $12,000 project to preserve two collections of recordings of Alaska Natives.

One collection features songs and history and the other has interviews with tribal leaders and other Alaska Natives. The 400 hours of recordings, made 25 to 30 years ago, document 181 speakers from 38 villages and 10 languages.
