Editorial: Don't blame Bennett for slip-up

A Utah Republican has "learned" a lesson for making insensitive remarks about American Indian culture and the issue should be "dropped," The Deseret News says in an editorial.

The afternoon paper says Sen. Bob Bennett (R-Utah) made a "lighthearted" suggestion about a rain dance. The subject of his remark was Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colo.), the only American Indian in the Senate.

"Bennett's wit got away from him for a moment last week," the paper says. "He quickly and effectively reined it in again. End of story."
