$18M Oglala Sioux casino expansion stalled
MONDAY, APRIL 14, 2003 Plans for an $18 million expansion of the Oglala Sioux Tribe's casino have stalled, The Rapid City Journal reports. President John Yellow Bird Steele said the cost was too high. He terminated a contract that would have found investors for the expansion and is now looking to other tribes for assistance. He also said the tribe is interested in building a second casino. The project broke ground last October. Phase I would have been completed by late 2003. Some tribal council members are frustrated with the delays and say politics have stalled the project. Get the Story:
