Calif. tribe drops plans to buy historic site

The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians of California won't buy a culturally significant site, citing criticism by a local official and other potential problems.

The Arrowhead Springs Resort is off-reservation but was the site of an old tribal village. The tribe had no plans to build a casino there, said the chairman, but officials in San Bernardino feared some sort of development.
