Mich. doesn't recognize off-reservation hunts
FRIDAY, MAY 2, 2003 The state of Michigan doesn't recognize off-reservation tribal hunting and fishing rights, according to the state Department of Natural Resources. The tribes have off-reservation rights guaranteed by treaty. But the state believes tribal members must comply with state hunting regulations and requirements, said Jim Ekdahl, DNR's specialist on tribal issues.
