Tribes in Ore. pledge cooperation with state

FRIDAY, MAY 23, 2003

Oregon's nine federally-recognized tribes came to the State Legislature on Thursday to observe Tribal Information Day.

Tribal leaders and Gov. Ted Kulongoski pledged to work together to resolve issues of concern. The state passed a law in 2001 that requires state agencies to consult with tribal governments.

Six of the nine tribes received recognition within the past 20 years.
