Cherokee tribe in Ala. buys Sequoyah Caverns

TUESDAY, JUNE 3, 2003

The Cherokee Tribe of Northeast Alabama has purchased Sequoyah Caverns for $25,000, the Associated Press reports.

The caverns are on traditional Cherokee territory. They are named after Chief Sequoyah, who invented the Cherokee syllabary.

The tribe is not federally recognized.
