Navajo Nation launches campaign against STDs
THURSDAY, JUNE 19, 2003 Navajo Nation leaders and health officials are taking aim at growing rates of syphilis and other sexually transmitted diseases on the reservation. Health officials have seen an outbreak of syphilis in recent years. The 2002 rate on the reservation was 14.7 cases per 100,000 people, nearly seven times the national rate of 2.2 cases per 100,000 people. There has also been a rise in HIV infection rates and AIDS cases, according to Navajo health officials. Get the Story:
