Marine says troops protected by sage and sweetgrass

Chris Peltier, a member of the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Tribe of North Dakota, says he used sage and sweetgrass to protect his fellow U.S. Marines while fighting in Iraq.

Peltier, 21, says his platoon leader encouraged him to smudge vehicles with sage and sweet grass that he brought from home. He says his division members also asked to be smuged before going into battle.
