San Carlos Apache Tribe in leadership roil

The vice chairman of the San Carlos Apache Tribe of Arizona is on leave amid a political and leadership dispute, The Arizona Republic reports.

Chief Farrell Goode was arrested June 24 after he allegedly assaulted a police captain. Vice chairman Robert Howard then placed Goode on administrative leave.

But Goode, 32, was subsequently reinstated by a tribal committee, which discovered that Howard had an outstanding warrant in a neighboring county. Howard said got the November 1998 warrant quashed and when he returned to the reservation, Goode tried to arrest him.
