Alaska tribe in leadership turmoil
THURSDAY, JANUARY 9, 2003 The Douglas Tribe of Alaska hasn't had elections in two years due to problems with its leadership, The Juneau Empire reports. An election was to be held on Monday but was canceled because an elections supervisor quit. The tribe has not set a new date. Some tribal members are upset with the failure to hold a new election. As a result, the Bureau of Indian Affairs continues to recognize a tribal council that was elected in 2001. Get the Story:
