Minn. tribe asserts veto power on nuclear plan

TUESDAY, JANUARY 14, 2003

The Prairie Island Mdewakanton Dakota Tribe of Minnesota continues to oppose efforts to store more nuclear waste at a facility next to the reservation.

The tribe cites a 1994 law that limits the waste at the site. Xcel Energy, the operators of the plant, is seeking to change the law to store additional casks of radioactive material.
