Schemitzun gets underway

FRIDAY, AUGUST 24, 2001

Schemitzun, one of the largest pow-wows in the country, began on Thursday on the Mashantucket Pequot Reservation in Connecticut.

The The four-day Feast of Corn and Dance has been traditionally held in September. Pow-wow chairman and tribal councilor Michael Thomas said weather concerns and scheduling complaints led to the schedule change.
