Md. county urges Indian mascot ban

In a letter sent on Monday, a Maryland county superintendent recommends his schools get rid of Indian mascots.

Montgomery County Superintendent Jerry D. Weast said schools should make their mascot representations "bias-free." At least three schools are affected.

The school board is expected to consider the issue at a meeting tonight. A poll conducted by The Washington Post showed that four out of seven board members supported getting rid of the "Indian" mascot at Poolesville High School.
