Navajo Long Walk may be historic trail
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2001 The House on Tuesday approved a bill to consider designating the Navajo Long Walk as a National Historic Trail. The 300-mile walk was taken by Navajo tribal members after being rounded up by the U.S. Army. After spending four years interned at a prison camp in New Mexico, Navajo leaders signed the 1868 treaty and the tribe walked back to the Four Corners area. Get the Story:
