Educator named to state panel

AUGUST 23, 2000

Joe McDonald, a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of Montana, has been named to the state panel on economic development.

McDonald is the founder and current president of the Salish Kootenai Tribal College in Pablo. He also serves on the White House Advisory Committee for the Tribal Colleges Initiatives and on the American Indian Higher Education Consortium, which governs 32 tribal colleges in the United States and one in Canada.

The 16-member panel will try to raise economic indicators of the state. The state ranks near-last on many measures, including per-capita income.
