Pueblo petroglyphs get funded
OCTOBER 12, 2000 The newly signed 2001 Interior Appropriations bill includes $2.7 million in funding to complete land acquisition for the Petroglyph National Monument. The Petroglyph National Monument is located on the west side of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The 7,231-acre monument contains pre-historic and historic petroglyphs sacred to Pueblos in the state. It was first established in 1990. But it faced threats from development due to the expansion of the fast-growing city. A plan to build a road through the monument has been put on hold by the city.
