Interior bill funds salmon efforts

The $19.1 billion Department of Interior spending bill approved by Congress this week includes millions of dollars to preserve salmon in the Pacific Northwest.

More than $14 million in U.S. Fish and Wildlife funds are dedicated to habitat and salmon protection. An additional $26 million for the Elwha River project goes to help restore salmon runs on the Olympic Peninsula by removing two dams.

At the Bureau of Indian Affairs, $4 million goes for a tribal health, salmon and economic development program.
