Corps explore new forestry techniques

Several Alaska Native corporations are investing in new forestry techniques aimed at minimizing the effects of logging on the environment.

Sealaska Corp. of Juneau has invested $5.5 million in forestry techniques and has spent more than $1 million on research to study the effects of logging. Klukwan Inc. of Klukwan is restoring forests on Long Island and has a $5 million settlement trust dedicated to the effort.
