Plains tribes seek oil, gas development
JUNE 27, 2001 Plains tribal leaders told the Senate Indian Affairs Committee on Tuesday they need at least $150 million to explore natural resource development of their lands. While Plains tribes have large land bases, they lack the population centers that make gaming and other economic development enterprises a success for other tribes. But Plains reservations contain natural resources which tribal leaders hope to tap in order to provide economic opportunities for their communities. Get Senate Testimony:
