Old Indian fort may turn into monument
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2001 An old Indian fort in southern New Mexico is being evaluated by the National Park Service for possible consideration as a state and national monument. Fort Bayard was used to defend settlers during the Indian wars in the mid-1800s, when the United States was at war with numerous Apache and other tribes in the Southwest. Get the Story:
