Peruvian candidates plan to debate
MAY 9, 2001
Peruvian Presidential candidates Alejandro Toledo and ex-President Alan Garcia are planning on a public debate May 19.
The two are facing one another in a run-off election June 3. No one candidate obtained a majority of the vote in elections held last month.
Polls show Toledo leading Garcia 39 percent to 26 percent. But there are a large number (35 percent) who say they will cast spoiled or blank ballots.
