Conn. leader on anti-treaty rights council

The mayor of the Connecticut town of Ledyard is on a national advisory council for an anti-treaty rights and anti-sovereignty group.

Ledyard Mayor Wesley J. Johnson joined the United Property Owners (UPOW) about a year ago. He convinced his town to join recently.

Last month, Johnson attended a UPOW conference in Washington state. UPOW began in Washington to challenge the fishing rights and sovereignty of tribes there.

UPOW is a direct descendant of an anti-fishing rights group founded by former Congressman Jack Metcalf (R) of Washington. The group is linked to other national anti-treaty rights groups who have had violent confrontations over treaty and fishing rights.
